Rug description

The rug that wanted to be a painting.

If Picasso or Kandinsky had woven a rug, it would look like this. The "Cubist Ochre" model is a masterpiece from our Beni Mrirt collection, renowned as the most noble and dense in Morocco.

Forget the repetition of small patterns. Here, the artisan worked like a painter, composing large blocks of asymmetrical colors. The Ochre / Mustard Yellow triangle brings an incredible light that strikes the depth of the Black and Anthracite blocks. All on a luminous cream background.

The "Velvet" touch of the Mrirt
What can't be seen in the photo, but makes all the difference, is the texture. The Beni Mrirt is woven with a very tight double knot and the highest quality wool. The result is a dense, heavy, silky material that almost looks like velvet under the light.

I ordered the classic Beni Ouarain for my bedroom and it's exactly what I needed. The creamy white with geometric black patterns adds understated elegance. The wool is incredibly soft underfoot in the morning. The Azlif team was very responsive on WhatsApp when I had questions about the size.

The rug is beautiful, exactly as on the website. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars and not 5 is that delivery took 37 days instead of the advertised 35. But then again, it's handmade in Morocco, so I understand. The quality is there and customer service was transparent throughout.

I ordered a custom-made rug for my dining room (8' x 10') and the result is perfect. The team advised me on the dimensions via WhatsApp and the rug arrived in perfect condition. The fringes on both sides are beautiful. It's an investment, but you can tell it will last for generations.

This is the second one I've bought from Azlif and I'm still not disappointed! The first one has been in my living room for 8 months and has aged really well, with no color loss. This one is for my home office. The quality is consistently excellent. I'll definitely be back for a third.

I gave this rug to my wife for our 10th wedding anniversary. She burst into tears when she unwrapped it. The texture of the wool, the geometric patterns, the natural smell of the wool... everything about it is authentic. The packaging was neat and included the certificate of authenticity. A gift with soul.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this rug

  • Yes, it's a one-of-a-kind piece. Our artisans weave from memory according to orally transmitted traditions — they don't follow a fixed pattern. The patterns, spacing, and small irregularities are unique to each weaver. You will never find two identical rugs, even if made by the same person.
  • Yes, absolutely. Each Azlif rug is entirely hand-woven by a Moroccan Berber artisan on a traditional loom. The process takes between 3 and 5 weeks of meticulous work — each knot is made one by one, which guarantees the authenticity and exceptional quality of the piece.
  • The dimensions given are approximate, with a variation of ±5 to 10 cm. As each rug is hand-woven without machinery, slight differences are normal and are part of its artisanal charm. The fringes add approximately 5 to 8 cm to each side and are not included in the main measurements.
  • No, not if you avoid direct and prolonged exposure to sunlight. The natural shades of Berber wool are particularly stable over time. To preserve the colors, we recommend not placing the rug directly under a window that is exposed to the sun all day long.
  • Yes, this is completely normal for the first few weeks. Natural wool sheds short fibers remaining from the weaving process. This phenomenon gradually decreases after a few weeks of use. Simply vacuum regularly—it's a sign of an authentic natural wool rug.
