The Art of Preserving Beauty
Your AZLIF rug is not merely a decorative object; it is a living work of art. With time and proper care, the wool will develop a patina, soften, and gain character. Here’s how to care for it.
1. Regular Maintenance (Weekly)
💨 The Vacuum: The Gentle Touch
Vacuum once a week, always in the direction of the pile. Avoid the rotating brush, which can pull out fibers. Opt for a flat nozzle or a soft brush instead.
Tip: If your rug sheds a few fibers initially, this is normal. It's just excess wool shedding naturally.
🔄 The "Flipping" Technique
Every 3 to 6 months, rotate your rug to equalize wear. This also allows you to vacuum underneath and remove accumulated dust.
2. In Case of Stains (Act Quickly)
The Emergency Protocol
Never rub. Blot immediately with a clean, white cloth to absorb the liquid. Always work from the outside edge of the stain inward to prevent spreading.
Natural Recipes
Water + white vinegar: Mix 1 part vinegar to 3 parts lukewarm water. Dab gently.
Baking soda: For odors, sprinkle generously, leave for 2 hours, then vacuum.
Marseille soap: For grease stains, rub lightly with damp soap, then rinse with clean water.
✅ TO DO
- Blot immediately
- Use cold or lukewarm water
- Test on a hidden corner before
- Air dry
❌ DO NOT DO
- Rub vigorously
- Use bleach
- Using harsh chemicals
- Dry with a hairdryer or radiator
3. The Big Cleanup (Annual)
The Sun: Nature's Ally
Once a year, take your rug outside. Hang it or lay it on a clean surface, underside facing the sun for 2 to 3 hours. This naturally eliminates dust mites and revives the colours.
Caution: Do not leave the coloured side in direct sunlight for too long, as this could fade the natural colours.
Professional Cleaning
Every 2 to 3 years, entrust your rug to a professional specializing in cleaning handmade wool rugs. They use gentle techniques that respect the fibers and natural dyes.
